Sophie Calle
Sophie Calle
Sophie Calle is a French photographer who's work is very conceptual, sentimental and romantic and also lonely. She uses her photography to tell stories about her disappointments in love and the man that broke her heart as well as telling stories though strangers belongings.
The Exquisite pain are photos she took when traveling to meet with her boyfriend, who later broke up with her through phone call, and the pictures taken after that feel coldly detached, she used a red stamp with a count down to the day she had her heart broken and then another count down to the amount of days it took the to recover, her pictures look personal but the big red stamp makes it feel detached
The photos she took from working in a hotel of strangers rooms are interesting because they show what the person is like without meeting the actual person, she was observing people through their belongings.
Her style of photography reminds me of the type of photos the police take, in this picture you can see what the person has been eating you know that the person living here hasn't got a big income from the lack of belongings and that they live alone
