William Nicholson
The Lustre Bowl
William Nicholson (1872–1949)
I seen this painting in the National Gallery of Scotland. The painting really stood out to me, it looks so realistic. The reflection on the bowl brightens the painting. The high lights on the bowl pulls it's self out of the darkness, of the background.
Besides being very well painted, what I like is how it's so understated, it's not some lavished fruit bowl or a grand feast. It's not even a collection of pots and jars, it's simple and clean.
The colours of the painting is quite cool.
