My take on Romanticism

Romanticism wasn't about the human body, it was more about the land, and our place in it. The artists took reference from greek statues, they were known for making their subjects look somewhat  enhanced.

In Jacques Louis David: The Death of Marat, 1793, the painting is of Jean-Paul MaratMarat was a radical journalist and a public figure in the revolution. Marat's suffered from

Dermatitis herpetiformis, which is a inflammation of the skin. Marsh had a visible skin condition, which David left-out of his painting. It wasn't unheard of for an artists to make people look better then they really were, but in Romanticism the artists made people look godly almost.

In a way we're still doing this, with things like photoshop and face-tune. Most photographers enhanced they'er pictures, wether that's landscapes or portraits.

I made the paintings that I was going to use black and white, as it gives a better contrast. Being in black and white also meant that I didn't have to think about the colours, and made them less noticeable as paintings.

What I wanted todo was change the meaning of the paintings, even though some of them didn't need much changing... To days idea of romance is nothing like it was back then. we live in a fast world, were the only way to get noticed is to put yourself out there.

"FREE THE NIPPLE IS A GLOBAL CAMPAIGN OF CHANGE, FOCUSED ON THE EQUALITY, EMPOWERMENT, AND FREEDOM OF ALL HUMAN BEINGS."

A lot of what we see online is censored, with comperney's like Facebook, Tweeter and Instagram removing images and post's that they believe to be unsuitable. With that in mine I covered the women in the same way that they do.
