Paper portfolio by Sharron

Sharron's portfolio, fine art photography / fine art

Sharron was applying for fine art photography and fine art.  The aim of her portfolio is to show her range of techniques, skills, styles and to show the interviewer's what she is capable of.  The opening page contained one of her stronger pieces, you do this so that hopefully it will grab the interviewers interest, so that the first thing they see about you is something of high quality that will leave an impression.  She did the same with the last page as well so that it finished on a high note, people are more likely to remember the first and the last thing that they see then something that's been put in the middle of a book.

Her portfolio contained a lot of photography which was one of the subjects she wanted to study.  The photos that she chose to show in her portfolio were pictures that have a personal meaning to her, making the pieces personal to you makes it a lot easier to speak about when you're in a interview.

She was also applying for fine art so she had some pieces that showed her drawing skills, which she said "they look for no matter what course you do".  She also included finished final pieces from her units. She took along some of her best sketchbooks  which included her photography book.

The layout of her book was very straightforward and the pieces were all mounted on white card. She had a mixture of coloured and black-and-white pieces and photos in a range of different sizes. Her book gave out a stronger feel of the fine art photography then just fine art, The amount of pictures she had put into the book outnumbered the amount of art work that she had actually made. Overall her portfolio contained around about 18 pieces of work.

Her pictures to me all seemed overly edited and a bit too fake, I would have preferred to have seen more pictures that weren't edited in her sketchbook to get a better understanding of the type of level for photography someone applying for university should have.
