Richard Weston
Richard Weston was a Professor of Architecture at Cardiff University but has now moved over to Cardiff Metropolitan University as a Professor in the School of Art and Design. I first came across his work when I was watching a BBC documentary on the buyers at Liberty of London, he was trying to sell a range of scarfs. I'd completely forgotten about him and is work, it wasn't until I saw his work in a presentation on surface patterns that I remembered him.
He uses high magnification microscope to take images of minerals like; agate, quartz, fluorite, orbicular jasper and Paesina Stone as well as fossils. He uses photography as a way of creating pattern. I would say that he is a artist, as much as a photographer, his pictures are complex and highly detailed and colours of the images are amazing.
His work keeps a grafict feel to them though out the making Proteus
