Peter Keetman
Peter Keetman
1916 - 2005
I would say that he is an industrial photographer, based on his pictures that I have seen.
Schwalben in Breitbrunr, chiemsee 1960.
This photo stands out to me because of the contrast in colour between the swallows and the sky. The swallows are so dark in this image that they almost could be silhouette if it wasn't for the patches of white on some of the birds. I like the angle that he's used, with the phone lines going diagonally from corner to corner in the frame. At a first glance you could think you were looking at musical notes as the birds are all facing the same way like symbols on a line but that is broken by the blurred images of the flying birds.
Screw pump, 1960.
I think Keetmans photos have a similarity. Although he photographs different topics, the similarity is the pattern the photo shows rather than a recognised object. I see the patterns and the shapes first, then the subject. His main topic is man-made structures and machinery, all shot in black and white. Having the pictures in black and white enhances the shapes, patterns and contrast which would be somewhat lost if they were in colour.
Untitled, 1965. I like the different colour tones of this photo.
Kunststoffrofile, 1960.
I chose this photo because the first thing that strikes you is the pattern. I don't think this is natural lighting based on the fact that the shadows are quite sharply defined
also the light is coming from too low an angle. It is hard to get an idea of scale. It could be either a small part of a computer or a large maze. I looked up kunststoffrofile and it translates as plastic profiles, so I still don't know the size. This picture makes me think of isolation as there is no direct route in or out of it.
